KTSM News – Mesita ES student to represent El Paso at national spelling bee

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A fourth-grade student, Anaya Tonde, from Mesita Elementary School will represent El Paso at the Scripps National Spelling Bee taking place in May in Washington, D.C., El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) said in a news release.

EPISD said this achievement follows Tonde’s victory at the Regional Spelling Bee held Saturday morning. Feb. 22, at Andress High School, 5400 Sun Valley Dr.


EPISD hosts 2025 Regional Spelling Bee

Tonde was the 1st place winner, followed by 2nd place winner Chukwunonso Egbuonu, an eighth-grade student from St. Raphael Catholic School, and 3rd place winner Jimena Gamboa, a seventh-grade student from PR Leyva Intermediate School, EPISD said.
