EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Learn how to foster and properly take care of kittens in El Paso Animal Services’ “Kitten Shower” event.
“Kitten Shower” is an event in partnership with Friends of El Paso Animal Services and will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at RAD Retrocade East, located at 9910 Montana Ave.

The educational and interactive event is aimed at preparing for kitten season, where participants will learn about fostering, lifesaving programs and ways to support vulnerable kittens through donations, El Paso Animal Services said in a news release.
“Many well-meaning residents bring kittens to the shelter, thinking they’ve been abandoned, when in reality, their mother is likely nearby caring for them,” Terry Kebschull, director of El Paso Animal Services, said. “Unfortunately, this ‘kitnapping’ separates kittens from their best chance at survival—their mom. That’s why we rely on foster caregivers to help keep these fragile babies alive, happy, and healthy when they arrive at the shelter without mom.”
In addition to the event, Friends of El Paso Animal Services will be collecting donations from the Kitten Shower “registry” to support orphaned kittens.
Families interested in fostering kittens will have the opportunity to sign up on-site with guidance from staff and volunteers.
Guests at the event can enjoy games, arts and crafts, refreshments, educational demonstrations and a chance to pet and play with adorable foster kittens.
According to El Paso Animal Services, the community is encouraged to leave kittens under two months old where they are found unless they are sick or injured, as their mothers are likely nearby, and their best chance of survival depends on her care.
