EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office said it will remove more than 6,500 inactive voters from its voter rolls after a review.
The County Clerk’s Office made the announcement on Friday, Feb. 28.
This action follows a review by the Board of Registration and is mandated by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, the County Clerk’s Office said.
“The Board of Registration thoroughly reviewed the list of potentially inactive voters. After careful consideration, the board has voted and directed the Clerk’s Office to remove these individuals due to a change in residence or failure to respond to the Secretary of State’s confirmation mailing in 2022. The Board conducted its work in full compliance with New Mexico’s Open Meetings Act, ensuring transparency,” the County Clerk’s Office said.
The Board of Registration is a community-led body appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, the County Clerk’s Office said.
The board consists of two registered Democratic constituents, two registered Republican constituents, one non-party affiliated/Independent constituent, and one Republican alternate member who was not called upon for the meeting.
“The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office will now finalize the updated voter rolls by officially
removing the identified inactive voters. This ensures the voter registration list remains accurate
and reflects only eligible and active voters for future elections,” the County Clerk’s Office said.
“The integrity and accuracy of our voter rolls are essential to ensuring fair and transparent elections. The Board of Registration’s work helps maintain up-to-date records while safeguarding the rights of all eligible voters. I want to sincerely thank the members of the Board of Registration for their willingness to serve their community in this important role,” Doña Ana County Clerk Amanda López Askin said.
