EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — IDEA Public Schools is celebrating 10 years of the “Healthy Kids Here” initiative with its annual 5k Run/Walk and Healthy Living Expo.
The event is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Ascarate Park, located at 6900 Delta Dr. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:15 a.m.
The event is to promote fitness, health and wellness among IDEA students, families and the community, according to the news release by IDEA Public Schools.
“We are excited to celebrate 10 years of ‘Healthy Kids Here’ with our family fun 5k event,” Amanda Krippel, Healthy Kids Here program director, said. “Movement is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and we are looking forward to bringing families and friends together for a fun morning.”
To enter the race, IDEA students can enter for free. IDEA team and family members pay $15 and community members pay $20.

All paid participants of the race will receive an IDEA 5k shirt and bib. All race participants will receive an official medal.
According to IDEA Public Schools, all proceeds from the event will go towards IDEA’s Healthy Kids Initiatives in El Paso.
In addition to the race, guests can visit a range of vendors and exhibitions including booths with information on healthy eating, diabetes, local gyms and a farmers’ market with produce from IDEA campus farms, IDEA said.
