EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a man earlier this week near New Mexico State University, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.
Saul Camarena, 41, was charged with an open count of murder and will be incarcerated in the Doña Ana County Detention Center, Las Cruces Police said in an update issued on Friday, Feb. 28.
As KTSM previously reported, police were dispatched at roughly 8 p.m. on Wednesday to the 2100 block of Lynch Drive about reports of a gunshot victim.
First responders found 36-year-old Justin Griffin with at least one gunshot wound and he was later pronounced dead on the scene, according to Las Cruces Police.
According to police, they believe Camarena and Griffin were involved in some type of altercation that led up to the shooting.
Camarena was arrested at roughly 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 after law enforcement determined Camarena’s whereabouts and located him at a home on the East Mesa area of Las Cruces, police said.
