EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Repairs to a ruptured water main that caused a sinkhole in far East El Paso will begin next week, according to El Paso County on Friday, Feb. 28.
As KTSM previously reported, a sinkhole opened up along Mission Ridge Boulevard on Jan. 30, where months earlier another sinkhole was repaired in the same area.
The Paseo de Este Municipal Utility District has secured local contractors to begin repairs, starting Monday, March 3, with an estimated completion date by the end of the month, the County said in a news release.
The project will involve extensive removal and replacement of damaged asphalt paving, base course and subgrade materials, along with additional repairs necessary of the ruptured main waterline, the County said.
According to the County, the repair process will include multiple phases with repairs to the damaged infrastructure and the reconstruction of the road.
Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes during the construction.
“Although the main waterline break is in the jurisdiction of Paseo de Este Municipal Utility District, El Paso County remains committed to addressing the roadway impacts caused by this incident and will continue to provide updates as they become available,” the County said.
