EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A juvenile was recently taken into custody after a vehicle was stolen last month from a parking lot in Horizon City, according to the Horizon City Police Department.
Horizon Police say on Monday, Feb. 17, officers responded to a report of a stolen Hyundai Sonata from a parking lot in Horizon. Later that day, the stolen vehicle was found abandoned by officers.
Police then identified a juvenile they say was responsible for the theft. The juvenile was taken into custody and was referred to the El Paso County Juvenile Probation Department on Monday, March 3.
The juvenile is facing a charge of felony theft of a vehicle.
“Over the past year, theft incidents involving Hyundai Sonatas have significantly increased due to vulnerabilities in the vehicle’s on-board electronics and ignition cylinder mechanisms,” Horizon Police said.
The Horizon City Police Department urges owners of affected Hyundai vehicles to check with their local Hyundai service center to ensure their vehicle is equipped with the latest theft prevention software or to receive a steering wheel lock as part of a national recall.
