El Paso Matters – Photos: El Paso Matters Book Club hosts fiction workshop, author meetup with Luis Jaramillo

The El Paso Matters Book Club welcomed author Luis Jaramillo for two special literary events, bringing together writers and readers in El Paso.

On Friday, Feb. 28, the club partnered with Chrysalis and the Papagayo Project, a pair of literacy-centric organizations at El Paso Community College, to present “Getting Started in Fiction,” a writing workshop taught by Jaramillo at EPCC’s Rio Grande Campus. The author led participants through abstract writing exercises designed to spark creativity and develop storytelling skills. The free event drew about 30 writers of all skill levels.

On Saturday, March 1, the El Paso Matters Book Club hosted a meetup at Barnes & Noble at the Fountains at Farah for a discussion of Jaramillo’s novel, “The Witches of El Paso.” The event featured a moderated conversation and live Q&A with the author, providing insight into his writing process and the themes of his book, which was the book club’s latest selection.
