EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for criminal sexual contact of a child under the age of 13, the District Attorney’s Office in Alamogordo, New Mexico, announced on Monday, March 3.
El Pasoan Bernando Cornejo was sentenced on Thursday, Feb. 27 to the maximum sentence allowed by law of 15 years in prison, the Alamogordo DA’s Office said.
Cornejo was convicted in November 2023 by a Lincoln County jury of criminal sexual contact of a child under 13, the Alamogordo DA’s Office said.
On Dec. 31, 2021, while visiting Ruidoso, Cornejo “unlawfully and intentionally touched the unclothed intimate parts of a child under the age of 13 years old,” the Alamogordo DA’s Office said.
Following an investigation, Cornejo was arrested and charged on Feb. 7, 2022.
The case was investigated by the Ruidoso Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney RoxeAnne Esquibel and Deputy District Attorney Mikel Ward.
