EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the El Paso County Constable’s Office for Precinct 6 conducted a “stationary vehicle check” on Monday, March 3 in Horizon City.
The operation, which was done along the 100 block of Peyton Road, focused on motorists carrying a valid driver’s license and having proof of insurance, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies made contact with 80 vehicles, issuing “multiple citations” for offenses like not having a driver’s license, expired vehicle registration, a stop sign violation and illegal window tint, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Additionally, two people were arrested for outstanding traffic warrants, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said these efforts are for public safety and not immigration enforcement.
“The ongoing trend of drivers operating vehicles without a valid license or proof of financial responsibility continues to be a serious issue in our community. These stationary vehicle checks are strictly focused on ensuring drivers are properly licensed and insured, as required by law,” Ugarte said.
“We do not ask for immigration status, nor will we. Our responsibility is public safety, and these efforts will continue based on traffic data until we see a decrease in violations and an increase in compliance. We also want to take this opportunity to educate the public on the importance of complying with state law,” Ugarte added.
