WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Donald Trump will deliver an address to a joint session of Congress.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers will be in attendance.
The address offers the president a chance to sell the American people on his domestic and foreign policy agenda that has sparked endless headlines in recent weeks.
“President Trump makes his triumphant return of course,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson says the speech will highlight work already done.
President Trump has signed a record 76 executive orders ramping up deportations, banning DEI programs, rolling back environmental regulations and with the help of Elon Musk making sweeping cuts to so-called waste across the federal government.
“In Texas we have this thing called spring cleaning…undo the waste and the fraud,” said Rep. Nathaniel Moran (R-Texas.).
White House border czar Tom Homan says President Trump will call on Republicans to do their part in the upcoming budget.
“We need Congress to step up and give us the funding we need,” said Homan.
Democrats warn the spending cuts endanger programs like Social Security and Medicaid.
“Trump and Elon Musk dismantling the services that families rely on, while steering more taxpayer dollars to themselves and their billionaire friends,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.).
Democrats also say newly announced tariffs on Mexico and Canada will make matters worse.
“It’s going to cost people and it’s going to hurt our country,” said Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.).
The president says he will also speak about the future of Ukraine following a spat with Ukraine’s president last week
The administration froze military aid to Ukraine Monday night.
