KTSM News – Tax offices at Fort Bliss, West El Paso to reopen

Posted on March 10, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Tax offices at Fort Bliss and West El Paso will be reopened effective Wednesday, March 12, the Office of the El Paso County Tax Assessor-Collector said.

The tax offices at the Fort Bliss Welcome Center and at 424 Executive Center were closed effective March 1.

County to close 2 tax offices temporarily

The offices were closed because of an anticipated higher workload and a staff shortage to deal with new state regulations dealing with how automobile dealers report title transfers, Ruben P. Gonzalez, tax assessor-collector, said at the time of their announced closings.

Here is a statement he sent out on Monday, March 10:

“In my haste to satisfy upcoming state changes impacting our Automobile Dealer Community on July 1, 2025, I realized that as an Elected Official, I was failing to serve our citizens and taxpayers by closing the Westside and Fort Bliss Tax Offices. It is no fault of the citizens and taxpayers that we do not have adequate staffing to provide service to them and to the Dealer Community.

“Going forward, my offices will continue to do business with our current staff as best as possible.
Therefore, effective March 12, 2025, I have decided to resume operations at our Fort Bliss and Westside Tax Offices. I regret any inconveniences created by my efforts to support the state with these legislative changes.”
