EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Eight people were recently arrested following a crime suppression operation aimed at property crimes in far East El Paso, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office says the operation resulted in 20 traffic stops leading to eight arrests. Those arrests are the following:

  • One arrest for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
  • Two arrests for possession of a controlled substance (THC)
  • One arrest for possession of marijuana
  • One detention of a runaway minor
  • One arrest for illegal dumping
  • One arrest for theft of property
  • One arrest for driving while intoxicated

During the operation, detectives arrested Bruno Renteria, 29, who allegedly stole over 40 pieces of lumber from two construction sites.

The Sheriff’s Office says detectives in unmarked vehicles were conducting surveillance at the 15200 block of Imagine Drive in far East El Paso.

Detectives observed an individual who was later identified as Renteria, who collected lumber from two homes that were under construction, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A traffic stop was then initiated due to a traffic violation and detectives contacted a builder at the construction site. The builder confirmed Renteria did not have permission to take the lumber and was not employed by the company, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Renteria was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail on charges of theft of property under a $1,000 bond.
