EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police and other law enforcement agencies are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect hurt on Thursday evening, March 13, in Las Cruces.
Officers were called to reports of a man armed with a gun shortly before 7 p.m. on March 13 at the 500 block of South Main Street, police said.
According to police, the first officer who arrived on the scene located the suspect, who then led police on a short foot pursuit.
During the pursuit, at least one round was discharged and struck the suspect, according to police.
The suspect fell to the ground at the 800 block of South Main Street, and police located a firearm near where the man fell, according to police.
According to police, the suspect was detained and transported to a local hospital. His injuries are unknown.
The officer involved in the incident was not injured, police said.
“As is standard procedure, the officer will be placed on administrative leave pending further findings from the investigation,” according to the Las Cruces Police.
The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Officer-involved Incident Task Force, including detectives from the New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Mexico State University Police, according to the department.
