El PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Musicians and music lovers in El Paso, who are searching for a space to indulge their passion, can find that in the brand-new Whiptail Music Studio.
Located at 2328 Montana Ave. in Central El Paso, Whiptail is a music school and more.
It offers private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, and bass for all ages. It also offers songwriting and music production lessons, as well as group lessons in piano, guitar, and voice.

Local music bands or ensembles can also reserve rehearsal space there too.
“On top of the lessons, we’re also trying to just be a supportive community for all musicians. That’s why we’re starting with the rehearsal space. We offer affordable rehearsal spaces for any bands or any artists that need some place to get together to rehearse,” said Luis Marquez, co-owner and guitar instructor at Whiptail Music Studio.
Marquez, along with his two friends Adrian Santos and Abby Sagredo, who all recently graduated from college with a degree in music education, launched the music school last month with the goal of creating a unique music hub for other El Pasoans.

“We don’t have much of a music culture in El Paso. We have pockets here and there, but we don’t have an overlapping culture in the city. And, a part of it, I like to think is because there’s just sometimes a lack of accessible music education or private music education. Because realistically, we can all get it from our public school, but some students want a little bit more outside of school,” said Adrian Santos, co-owner of the studio and voice teacher at Whiptail Music Studio.
Santos, who was in choir from 6th grade through college, said he developed a passion for singing because of his musical instructors through grade school, but longed for a space outside of school where he could work on his craft, just like athletes are able to by playing in citywide recreational leagues.
Santos said that because music instruction time at schools is limited, it often becomes centered on preparing students for ensemble competitions. Santos said as a result of that, students don’t get much one-on-one instruction time with their teachers to work on singing as a soloist, which he says requires specific training and technique.
“That’s where we come in. I have a couple students that actually competed, and so they work in their choir class and they do great work. But then they get a private hour where I’m just focusing on their voice,” Santos said.
Santos said they are also working towards creating community choir ensembles for people to join for free.
They also want to try to launch a program for children to come in and learn the basics, like singing and dancing pattern recognition.
