Posted on March 20, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – New Mexico State Police (NMSP) made over 3,900 traffic stops and issued 1,800 citations for speeding across the state during a special operation held the week of spring break and St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

From Saturday, March 8, to Monday, March 17, NMSP participated in a Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) operation, which was implemented across all roadways in the state, State Police said in a news release.

Due to the increased traffic volume during the holiday, NMSP enhanced patrol presence on roadways across all twelve State Police districts, according to the news release.

NMSP said the operation led to officers making over 3,900 traffic stops, including 1,800 citations issued for speeding.

Additionally, 82 driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrests were made across the state. Officers also investigated 100 crashes, NMSP said.

NMSP said the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau completed over 2,500 commercial vehicle inspection stops.

“The New Mexico State Police is dedicated to enhancing roadway safety for all motorists within the state. NMSP will continue to implement holiday travel operations throughout the year and encourage the public to exercise safe driving practices and adhere to all traffic regulations while traveling on New Mexico’s roadways,” read the news release.
