EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Fire Department crews had a busy week as they extinguished three structure fires and a brush fire on Wednesday and Thursday, all within 16 hours, according to the department on Thursday, March 20.

At roughly 1:20 p.m. on March 19, fire crews were called to the 1700 block of North Valley Drive to reports of a commercial structure fire.

Fire crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building and determined the fire was in the attic, according to LCPD.

Firefighters located the source of the fire and contained it to a small section of the building. The fire was under control within 20 minutes, according to LCFD.

Later after 5 p.m., another call was made to the 1900 block of Coleen Avenue regarding a residential structure fire.

According to the department, fire crews arrived to find a storage shed and other items on fire in the backyard of the residence.

The fire was contained within minutes, according to LCFD.

Then, after 7 p.m. firefighters were called to a brush fire near the area of Elks Drive and Desert Blook Drive, according to LCFD.

According to Las Cruces Fire, Elks Drive had to be temporarily closed for about an hour as crews stopped the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

At roughly 4:50 a.m. the next day, on Thursday, March 20, fire crews were called to the 1500 block of North Mesquite Street to reports of a residential fire.
