EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Artcraft Road project, from the Texas and New Mexico state line to Interstate 10, will begin construction this month, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
The $243.7 million project is designed to “improve mobility in the fast-developing corridor,” according to TxDOT.
According to TxDOT, the project is expected to be completed in 2030.
The following features will be added:
- Direct connectors at the I-10 interchange providing drivers with direct access to I-10 east and west and to Artcraft Road.
- U-turn bridges at the Artcraft Road /I-10 interchange.
- Frontage road improvements between I-10 and SH 20 (Doniphan Drive) will include rebuilding sections of the road and extending the frontage roads in both directions.
- Bridges at the intersections of Artcraft Road at Upper Valley Road and Westside Drive will be added, along with new entrance and exit ramps.
- Shared-use path improvements creating a more accessible, safe, and enjoyable experience for all users.
According to TxDOT, the changes will assist in streamlining traffic at the Artcraft Road and I-10 interchange, enhance east and west-bound travel between NM136 and I-10, and improve access from cargo facilities to the Santa Teresa Border Crossing.
The Artcraft Road project will be constructed in five phases, some of which may be constructed concurrently, and the first phase will begin at the Texas and New Mexico state line, TxDOT said.
