KTSM News – City Parks crews preparing for busy Easter weekend

Posted on April 14, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department is preparing for a busy Easter weekend and wants to remind the public on ways to keep parks clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Easter is Sunday, April 20 and the upcoming weekend is one of the busiest times for the City’s 300 parks.

To help manage the increased activity, the Parks Department will place additional trash bins in high-traffic parks and assign extra maintenance staff throughout the weekend, the City said.

Park visitors are encouraged to bring their own trash bags and properly dispose of all waste after their Easter celebrations.

Additionally, residents are strongly urged to avoid using confetti-filled eggs (cascarones), as the confetti becomes embedded in the grass, making it extremely difficult for crews to clean and maintain park grounds, the City said.

Pets are welcome at all City parks; however, owners are reminded to keep their pets on a leash and to pick up after them to help maintain a clean and safe environment for all.

The following park rules should be kept in mind when visiting a City park:

• Leave the park cleaner than you found it

• Do not drive or park vehicles on grass or landscaped areas

• Place all trash in sealed bags and dispose of it in trash bins — do not leave loose bags or boxes on the ground

• Dispose of charcoal only in designated containers or take it home — never leave it on the ground, grass, or near trees

• Alcohol and smoking (including e-cigarettes) are prohibited at all City parks

• City ordinance violators should be reported to the police immediately
