EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 33-year-old woman was arrested after she attempted to smuggle several bundles of narcotics concealed within her rectum and vagina on Sunday at the Paso Del Norte bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a new release on Monday.
CBP says the seizure happened just after midnight when a CBP canine team performed a sweep of people who were waiting in line to enter the U.S.
The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics when passing a woman who was in line, CBP said.
CBP officers then selected the woman for a secondary exam and “identified indicators consistent with the internal concealment of drugs,” CBP said.
A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer then obtained a search warrant authorizing a medical exam.
The woman was transported to an area medical center where a CT scan confirmed she had foreign objects concealed internally, CBP said.
The woman removed then removed three bundles from her person. One package contained a crystal substance that tested positive for meth with a total weight of 0.02786 kilograms.
The second bundle contained blue pills that tested positive for fentanyl with a total weight of 0.05212 kilograms. A third package contained a powder that tested positive for fentanyl with a total weight of 0.03732 kilograms, according to CBP.
The woman and the drugs were turned over to Texas DPS for prosecution, CBP said.
