EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — New Mexico State University’s Department of Facilities and Services and NMSU Police are working to enhance lighting across campus.
The lighting project is to “deter criminal activity” and make it easier for students, staff and visitors to navigate the campus, according to the news release by NMSU.
According to NMSU, one to two people with high-visibility vests will be taking measurements of hundreds of exterior lighting fixtures to “understand lighting needs in various areas outside NMSU’s building and grounds.”
The lighting assessment began on Friday, April 18, and will last over the next few months.
The first phase of the lighting assessment ends in July and the Department of Facilities and Services’ project development and engineering will begin the first phase of lighting upgrades, NMSU said.
The lighting project will continue to cover additional areas until the entire NMSU campus has been assessed and lighting upgrades and improvements scheduled.
