KTSM News – Gadsden ISD among top districts for graduation rates

Posted on April 21, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Gadsden Independent School District was cited among the top districts in the state of New Mexico for graduation rates in a report by the state Public Education Department.

Alta Vista High School earned a perfect 100 percent graduation rate for the 2024 cohort — students who entered high school during the 2020-21 school year.

Additionally, Gadsden High School and Santa Teresa High School each achieved approximately 89% graduation rates, placing them among the top 10 large high schools in New Mexico, the district said.

“These outcomes reflect the extraordinary dedication of our educators, staff, and community,” GISD Superintendent Travis Dempsey said. “From data-driven instruction to campus-wide support systems, we’ve built structures that ensure every student is seen, supported, and guided toward graduation.”

Gadsden ISD’s success stems from “multiple aligned strategies”, it said:

  • Continuous monitoring of student attendance, course completion, and mobility.
  • Deployment of early warning systems and data dashboards to identify and support at-risk students.
  • Integration of the multi-layered system of supports (MLSS) and structured plans to help students define their postsecondary goals.
  • Strong participation in Perkins and NextGen Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to build workforce readiness.

“These results are a testament to our commitment to equity,” said Rosie Villalobos, director of Federal Programs. “Our use of federal resources has enabled us to provide wraparound services and community-based support that meet the unique needs of each student.”

“From teachers and counselors to bus drivers and support staff, this achievement is the result of districtwide collaboration and a shared belief in student success,” Gadsden ISD said.

“While proud of these results, Gadsden ISD remains focused on continuous improvement, working in alignment with the PED’s strategic plan to raise graduation outcomes across all student groups,” the district added.
