KTSM News – Docs: Woman arrested for attempting to steal car with child inside

Posted on April 22, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 28-year-old woman was arrested after she attempted to steal a vehicle from a car wash in West El Paso, while the child of the vehicle’s owner was in the back seat, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.

According to court documents, Josslyn Rae Reed, 28, was arrested on Saturday, April 19, and charged with abandonment/endangerment of a child with imminent danger or bodily injury.

At around 12:37 p.m. on Saturday, El Paso Police were dispatched to 4800 Love Road at the White Spur Park about an aggravated robbery, according to court documents.

According to court documents, upon arrival, police noticed a woman on the ground, later identified as Reed, being treated by fire medical services.

Police met with the victim, who said she was at the Mister Car Wash at 965 Sunland Park Dr. drying her car when she turned around to throw some trash from inside the car away, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the victim turned back around and noticed her car moving. She thought she had left her car in drive, but noticed the suspect inside the driver’s seat, traveling at a high rate of speed and trying to exit the parking lot.

The victim began to run after the suspect because of her son, who was in his car seat in the back of the car. She cut across the parking lot and tried to grab hold of the car’s door handle in fear for her child’s life, according to court documents.

According to court documents, in an attempt to grab the door handle, the suspect struck the victim with the right rear quarter panel of the car, causing the victim to fall on the ground. The victim then saw the suspect exit the parking lot and travel westbound on Sunland Park Drive.

A witness at the scene, who was also at the car wash and saw what happened, told the victim to get in her vehicle to follow Reed. The victim got into the vehicle, and they attempted to locate her car, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the victim saw the suspect drive toward White Spur Park off Emory Road in the Upper Valley.

The suspect crashed into the curb at the intersection of Emory Road and Love Road. Then she crashed into a gray vehicle and a black vehicle, respectively, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the suspect continued to operate the car in an “unsafe manner” and came to a complete stop after crashing with the black vehicle.

The victim’s car was “inoperable” from the damage sustained during the suspect’s attempt to flee, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the suspect placed the victim’s child in imminent danger of death or bodily injury.
