EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A flight departing from the El Paso International Airport returned to the gate on Wednesday morning, April 30, after the battery of a passenger’s cellphone ignited, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.
The airline said flight 2112 returned to the gate at the El Paso International Airport after the incident, and crews quickly extinguished the fire. Other passengers were able to get off safely at the gate.
The flight was departing from El Paso to Houston, according to the airline.
“Southwest is working with the appropriate federal and local investigative agencies. We accommodated our customers to Houston on another aircraft. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees,” read the airline’s statement.
