EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Canutillo Independent School District wants the community’s feedback on what classroom furniture it should use in its upcoming Bond 2024 construction projects.
The district will host a Furniture Fair from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, at the Alderete Middle School gym, 801 Talbot Ave.
“Participants will have the opportunity to see, test and evaluate desks, chairs, tables and other innovative furnishings that support 21st century teaching and learning,” the district said.
Several vendors will be on-site to display their products and answer questions.
“This event allows us to collaborate with our community on how our future classrooms will look and feel,” Superintendent Pedro Galaviz said. “We want to make sure the learning environments we’re designing are not only functional but foster creativity, flexibility and student success.”
Feedback collected from attendees will be used to inform final decisions on furniture purchases for the new and reconstructed schools being built under Canutillo Bond 2024, the district said.
Major bond projects include the relocation and reconstruction of Alderete Middle School, Canutillo Middle School, Davenport Elementary School and a permanent campus for Northwest Early College High School. Additional improvements include districtwide HVAC and roofing upgrades, safety infrastructure enhancements and athletic field lighting at Canutillo High School.
