SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — After relatively little inflation in Mexico during the first quarter of 2025, it suddenly rose by almost 4% in April, according to that country’s National Consumer Price Index.
The figures were provided by analysts working for Banxico, Bank of Mexico.
One of the biggest increases was seen in meat products, which rose by 8.25%.
Tomatoes went up by more than 22% and avocados by 11%.
But not everything has gone up in price, according to the index.
The cost of electricity decreased by more than 12% and the price of a movie ticket dropped by 10%.
Analysts say while concerning, the inflation increase is not seen as troubling as consumer spending, which went down by almost another percentage point last month, the third consecutive monthly drop this year, according to Mexico’s Institute of Statistics and Geography.
