EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Three wildfires continue to burn in Grant County east of Silver City, New Mexico, but officials with the Gila National Forest say they are making progress in fighting them.
A spokesperson with the Gila National Forest said progress is being made on Monday, May 19, but wind is a concern.
All three fires are east of the town of San Lorenzo and south of New Mexico Highway 152. Officials say they believe that lightning caused them on Saturday.
The Carrizo Fire remains at 137 acres and 50 percent containment, officials said. Three engines and a hand crew are continuing to work on it and are making good progress on containment there, officials said.
The Outlaw Fire is 30 acres and 0 percent containment, but crews are making good progress on that one as well, officials said.
The Gallinas Fire is about 10 acres. There is a fireline that is about 50 percent around the fire but that doesn’t mean the fire is 50 percent contained yet, officials said.
Two hotshot crews and one hand crew are working on that fire.
