KTSM News – Electric Company Charitable Foundation makes spring grants

Posted on May 28, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Electric Company Charitable Foundation (ECC Foundation), the charitable arm of El Paso Electric (EPE), made its springtime grant awards on Wednesday, May 28.

Now in its third year, the ECC Foundation continues to make “transformative investments that support the communities it serves, awarding grants to 39 nonprofit organizations across the EPE service region,” the organization said.

These grant recipients were selected based on their alignment with the foundation’s three focus areas: education, economic development and environmental stewardship.

The ECC Foundation’s goal is to empower local nonprofits that are “driving real impact and shaping a stronger, more sustainable future for the region,” the organization said.

“Our community is full of visionaries who are creating opportunities, expanding access to resources, and protecting our environment,” Robert Almanzán, president of the ECC Foundation Board, said. “It’s our privilege to help power their work and be part of the momentum they’re building. Through these grants, we’re investing in efforts that uplift lives and strengthen the future of our region.”

This latest round of grants will help fund a variety of programs, including:

  • STEM education workshops and career readiness programs for youth
  • Entrepreneurship and job training efforts in underserved communities
  • Habitat restoration, water conservation and sustainability education projects

EPE launched the ECC Foundation in 2023 as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen the communities it serves, the news release said.

Through strategic grantmaking, the ECC Foundation aims to support initiatives that expand educational access, foster economic resilience and advance environmental sustainability, it added.

The foundation accepts applications twice a year and encourages nonprofit organizations working in eligible areas to apply. The fall grant window will open on Aug. 4 and close on Sept. 5.
