EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Fire Department has a new deputy chief, who is a veteran of the department for 17 years.
The Fire Department said that Tibor Kocsis is the new deputy chief of administration,
Kocsis began his new duties May 19. Kocsis was a battalion chief for LCFD since 2021, serving in both administration and operations.
“I’m pleased and proud of the work Tibor has done for our community over the years,” Fire Chief Michael Daniels said. “He’s a proven leader and, over the years, has helped guide some of the most pivotal operations of our department.
“I have the upmost confidence in Tibor and will lean on him for years to come,” Daniels added.
Kocsis has helped lead the department’s Technical Rescue Team that’s been deployed to multiple mountain rescues over the years and to Ruidoso in the aftermath of flooding in 2024. He also assisted in the standup of operations during the influx of migrants in 2019, the Fire Department said.
Kocsis serves as New Mexico vice president on the board of directors for the Southwestern Fire Chief’s Association. He also served on the executive board of the local International Association of Firefighters and has been on labor management in his role as a chief officer.
Kocsis earned an associate’s degree from New Mexico State University and will complete his bachelor’s degree in business administration in December from Western New Mexico University.
