EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – As high temperatures are expected in the coming weeks, El Paso County will open its community centers as cooling centers for residents beginning Sunday, June 15, with an anticipated end date of Aug. 15, the County said in a news release.
The following cooling centers are available every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday through Saturday, according to the County:
- Agua Dulce Community Center – 15371 Kentwood Ave., Horizon City
- Fabens Community Center – 201 NW Camp St., Fabens
- Canutillo Community Center – 7351 Bosque Rd., Canutillo
The County said cooling centers will be closed on Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July 4) holidays.
The City of El Paso also has cooling center locations that are open and available. Locations and hours of operation for these particular cooling centers can be found here.
The County is also encouraging pet owners to take precautions by ensuring pets have access to fresh water and shaded areas, as well as to avoid walking their pets during peak heat hours to prevent overheating and paw pad injuries.
For after-hours or overnight cooling assistance, dial 311 to be connected with the City’s shelter network partners. In the event of an emergency, dial 911, the County said.
