EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Sometimes, you come across a knife or a piece of gear you really don’t want to like.
But when you try it out, the way it functions just wins you over and causes you to change your mind.
Such is the case for the RoseCraft Blades Pocket Monster “Mike.”
When I first took a look at it, the bright green G10 handles and blue anodized pivot accents and thumb studs just didn’t do it for me. “Not my style,” I said rather flippantly.
I normally like earth tones when it comes to my knives and when I do go for green, I go for the more low-key OD (olive drab) green for that Army look.
But after I carried the Pocket Monster around for just a few hours, I really changed my tune on this one and realized my first impression was way off-base.

It is small but packs a wallop. The drop-point blade is 2.75 inches but has a 1-inch finger choil which makes it perfect to choke up on.
It also has some jimping up on the spine of the blade. Combine the finger choil with the jimping, and it is obvious this knife was designed to be held in a choked-up position.
As for the colors, after a little research, I learned that the knife was modeled to be a homage to the “Monsters, Inc.” character “Mike.”
There are two other Pocket Monsters available – a black one with orange accents and a blue one with purple accents which is nicknamed the “Sully,” also after a “Monsters, Inc.” character.

Here are some other impressions from the Mike. Its deep-carry pocket clip makes this a super discreet carry. No part of the knife peeks above your pocket with this clip.
The G10 handles have some texturing to make sure your hand doesn’t slip.
This knife has a couple of deployment options. It has a front flipper, which isn’t my favorite opening method. That’s not a knock against this knife, just a personal preference.
It also has ambidextrous thumb studs and those really rocket the blade out.
Additionally, it uses a liner lock, giving it a little bit of a traditional feel.
Here are some numbers: 2.75-inch blade with a 1-inch finger choil; 3.85 inches closed; and 6.6 inches when open. It weighs 3.75 ounces.
The numbers don’t lie. It is a small knife but when you choke up and take advantage of that generous finger choil, this knife is an EDC monster.

This knife is listed for $25.99 on the RoseCraft website, marked down from $53.99.
