KTSM News – City of Socorro to host event to launch new transit service

Posted on June 16, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of Socorro is inviting the community to an event this week to celebrate the launch of its first-ever local transit offering, Socorro Avanzando Microtransit Service.

City of Socorro to launch microtransit service next month

The City said the event will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at the City Council Chambers, 860 N. Rio Vista Rd.

This event will highlight the City’s “transformative initiative to provide high-quality, on-demand transit services, enhancing mobility and filling the community’s growing need for reliable transportation options,” read a news release by the City of Socorro.

The City said important details about the new microtransit service will be available to the community, including:

  • Zero rider cost
  • Hours of operation
  • Same-day service
  • Fleet pool (vehicles will be on display)
  • ADA accessible vehicles

Additionally, City Council members and local transportation planners will be available to discuss how this new transit service will improve mobility, support local economic development, and ensure equitable access to reliable transportation for all Socorro residents.

As we previously reported, the new microtransit service comes after the El Paso Transit Authority (ETA), which operates the regional bus system serving communities throughout the greater El Paso area, announced that its buses will no longer stop in Socorro, starting July 1.

In 2024, the City Council of Socorro voted not to enter into a service agreement with ETA.
