EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 68-year-old man was arrested for animal cruelty after a video was posted to a popular social media account showing what the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office called a “disturbing act of animal abuse.”
The Sheriff’s Office said that they arrested 68-year-old Gerald Gallegos for cruelty to non-livestock animals. He was booked into the El Paso County Dowtown Detention Facility with a bond of $35,000.

The arrest was made at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17.
The Sheriff’s Office said they began to investigate after the video was posted on social media.
Within hours, investigators identified and arrested the suspect, identified now as Gallegos.
The Sheriff’s Office did not elaborate on what Gallegos did to the animal.
“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community,” El Paso County Sheriff Oscar
Ugarte said. “We will continue to act swiftly when animals are harmed and hold offenders
accountable.”
The Sheriff’s Office said it wants to encourage the public to continue to report instances of animal abuse or neglect.
