EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Seven Springs Fire grew to over 300 acres on Wednesday morning, June 18, which is burning on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, according to the tribe’s Facebook page.
The fire is burning in the Nogal Canyon area of the reservation, and residents there were told to evacuate Tuesday night.
The tribe said the evacuation order is currently only for Nogal Canyon, and no other residential areas or communities are currently under an evacuation order.
The fire was initially reported at 200-plus acres, but has since grown to 350 acres, according to the tribe.
Eleven type six engines, one type one dozer, one type three engine, three water tenders, two type one crews, one type IA crew, and one short module from Mescalero have all been deployed to combat the fire, the tribe said.
The Village of Ruidoso said the fire is not threatening the Village at this time, but smoke is visible.
