EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Community College (EPCC), in partnership with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, held a grocery pickup event on Tuesday, June 17.
According to the news release by EPCC, the EPCC Campus Life and Student Leadership assisted in the event at the Transmountain Campus, located at 9570 Gateway N Blvd.

“It is something to be proud of that we are able to help students, faculty, staff and our community with this grocery pick up,” EPCC Student Leadership and Campus Life representative Mariana Olivas said.
EPCC said hundreds of people lined up in their cars to receive food, including fruit, vegetables, chips, potatoes, canned goods, and liquids. All of the food was free and available to students, faculty, staff, and the community.
EPCC and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger first partnered in July 2024 for a grocery pickup event at the Valley Verde Campus, the news release read.
Since 2024, multiple grocery pickup events have happened at the Rio Grande and Mission del Paso campuses as part of a “broader effort to address food insecurity on campus,” EPCC said.
In addition, EPCC said, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger also partnered with the EPCC Pasos Program to help fight food insecurity.
According to the Trellis Strategies Student Financial Wellness Survey, 45 percent of EPCC students experienced food insecurity in Fall 2023, the news release read.
“This initiative is made possible through a partnership with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, EPCC Campus Life, The Pasos Program, New Student Orientation, and the EPCC Student Government Association,” EPCC said.
