WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR)– Vice President JD Vance is visiting Los Angeles Friday amid tensions between the state’s government and federal authorities over immigration enforcement.
After weeks of immigration protests, a federal court ruled President Donald Trump can maintain authority over the California National Guard. Governor Gavin Newsom said, “the fight doesn’t end here,” in a post on X.
Another federal judge ruled against the Trump administration. The court said the White House can’t withhold funding from states that don’t cooperate with immigration enforcement.
“The President has made it very clear we need to remove public safety threats from the interior of the country,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
On Thursday, demonstrators rallied at Dodger Stadium. The Los Angeles Dodgers tweeted that ICE agents “requested permission to access the parking lots. They were denied entry to the grounds by the organization.”
The Department of Homeland Security responded, saying, “CBP vehicles were in the stadium parking lot very briefly, unrelated to any operation or enforcement.”
Border patrol data for May shows 8,725 illegal border encounters, down sharply from 117,905 last year.
