EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A fire that is burning in Lincoln County, New Mexico, is now at 40 percent containment, the New Mexico Forestry Division said on Sunday afternoon, June 22.
The Skyline Fire, which is burning south of Hondo, New Mexico, and Highway 380, is currently at 127 acres, the Forestry Division said.
The fire started Saturday, June 21 and was caused by lightning, the Forestry Division said.
About 60 firefighters are on scene, battling the blaze.
Lines constructed around the Skyline Fire Saturday held overnight, the Forestry Division said.
Additional resources from the U.S. Forest Service and retardant drops from air attack allowed the fire’s containment to increase to 40% as of 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the Forestry Division said.
Sunday, crews will be able to start beginning to secure lines and working in from the edge of the
fire. Two hotshot crews have arrived and will be working with other resources to help provide further containment. GPS mapping was used to update the fire’s acreage to 127 acres burned.
There have been no evacuations because of this fire.
