EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team is deploying to Ruidoso in anticipation of monsoon rains and the potential for heavy runoff in flood-prone areas, the Fire Department said in a press release on Monday, June 23.
The Fire Department says the team will leave on Monday for Ruidoso. The team includes six firefighters who are trained in water rescue operations. The deployment is anticipated to take seven days.
The Fire Department says it has deployed one member for incident command duties in support of the Trout Fire in Grant County.
In 2024, Las Cruces firefighters deployed to Ruidoso three times and to the Roswell area following flooding in those areas, the Fire Department said.
“LCFD members deploying to Ruidoso are battalion chief/paramedic Jeremiah Lay, lieutenant/paramedics Christopher Torres and Christopher Johnson, driver/operators Arnold Diaz and Robert Fresquez, and firefighter Benjamin Monsivaiz,” the Fire Department said.
