Border Report – Border Report Live: Border authorities on alert over Mideast conflict

Posted on June 24, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — The conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as U.S. involvement, could affect officers and agents who work the nation’s borders.

During the weekend, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a bulletin via the National Terrorism Advisory System, warning that Iran-backed extremists could mobilize in the country, and carry out terrorist attacks and cyber security hacks.

At the border and other ports of entry, officials have in place special procedures for people from places like Iran who might try to enter the country.

They are considered “Special Interest Aliens,” and are subjected to additional interviews to explain the purpose of their travel, where they’ll stay, and for how long before being allowed into the United States.

In this episode of Border Report Live, correspondents Julian Resendiz and Sandra Sanchez, and host Rudy Mireles discuss the response to the Iran-Israel conflict and how it will affect border communities. In addition to immigration policies, the U.S. has several tools at the border to help prevent an attack. Plus, Mexico’s reaction to the U.S. involvement in the conflict.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel appeared to hold.

Join the award-winning Border Report team at 1:30 p.m. CDT Tuesdays and 3 p.m. CDT Thursdays at borderreport.com for a weekly, live, in-depth discussion about people living, working and migrating along the U.S.-Mexico border.
