EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 32-year-old man was shot by police after he shot and injured another man late Monday night, June 23, at a manufacturing facility in El Paso’s Lower Valley, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said in a news release.
EPPD said at 11:24 p.m. on June 23, officers responded to the 7300 block of Stiles to a report of a subject with a gun.
When officers arrived, several employees had evacuated to the parking lot, where officers made contact with Paul Ivan Gonzalez, 32, EPPD said.
EPPD said Gonzalez opened fire in the parking lot and during an encounter with officers, he was shot.
It was later confirmed that Gonzalez shot an employee before the officers arrived at the scene, EPPD said.
EPPD said emergency medical aid was rendered on scene; however, the victim and Gonzalz were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.
No officers were injured during the incident. And Crimes Against Persons is continuing with the investigation, as well as the Internal Affairs Shooting Review Team and the Texas Rangers, under standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, EPPD said.
EPPD said criminal charges against Gonzalez are pending his release from the hospital.
