EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Fire Department celebrated 16 cadets graduating from its Fire Academy on Friday, June 27.
According to the news release by Las Cruces Fire, the following 16 cadets graduated from the 38th Fire Academy:

- Jacob Baldwin
- Rebekah Butler
- Patrick Cardon
- Alejandro Carrillo
- Jacob Casillas
- Henry Gardner
- Samuel Grant
- Brian Korn
- Jazmin Martinez
- Trent Mims
- Juan Ortiz Villa
- Charles Ray
- Leah Schnell
- Shane Sowers
- Melvin Villegas

The ceremony was held at the Rio Grande Theatre in Downtown Las Cruces, the news release read.
According to Las Cruces Fire, starting on June 29, graduates who already have their EMT-basic license will be assigned to one of eight fire stations for emergency response.
Alternatively, the remaining cadets will complete another eight weeks of EMT-basic training before they are licensed, Las Cruces Fire said.
The Fire Academy provides 640 hours of field training and classroom instruction over 16 weeks, the news release read.
During the academy, cadets receive training in firefighting techniques, hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, technical rescue and fire inspection, Las Cruces Fire said.
