EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The fire incident command team announced that the Trout Fire is now 83 percent contained, according to a news release issued on Sunday, June 29.
The fire, located 12 miles north of Silver City, New Mexico, has burned 47,294 acres and is 83 percent contained, according to fire officials.

A total of 553 fire personnel remain on the scene.
The fire started on June 12 and was caused by lightning, according to fire officials.
On Saturday, crews made “significant” progress on suppression repairs by using chippers to reduce fuels along New Mexico highways 15 and 35, the news release read.
Additionally, firefighters continue chipping and using lop-and-scatter techniques for debris to minimize fire risk and encourage natural resource recovery, fire officials said.
Fire officials said crews on the southwestern portion of the fire, near Black Peak, will continue to work to extinguish residual heat and secure control lines.
According to the news release, management of the wildfire will transition to the Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management team at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30.
The team will continue to focus on suppression repair and supporting local partners, communities and the Gila National Forest, fire officials said.
Fire officials want to remind residents that ongoing minimal fire activity can still produce visible smoke and ash in the air, but it does not threaten the containment lines.
The Trout Fire received nearly an inch of rain on Saturday, as the rain was falling in the central part of the fire area. Thunderstorms are forecasted Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the high 80s.
