El Paso Matters – Photos: Pages and Pints celebrates ‘Chuco Punk,’ punk rockers, book & brew lovers
Posted on June 30, 2025
El Paso’s punk spirit came to life at this weekend’s Pages and Pints: Books & Brews Festival — a high-energy night that fused storytelling, music, art and craft beer.
Hosted by the El Paso Matters Book Club in partnership with Old Sheepdog Brewery, Saturday’s event at the brewery spotlighted the book “Chuco Punk: Sonic Insurgency in El Paso” by Tara López, drawing hundreds of people to honor the city’s rebellious, rhythm-charged past.
The festival featured a Q&A and book signing with López, which was preceded by a panel discussion moderated by Barbed Wire Open Mic host Richie Marrufo. Panelists included López, Bobbie Welch, , a veteran concert promoter and producer; and Jesse Youngblood, a former member of the El Paso punk band Faction X.
Live music was provided by La Discordia, JJ Caballero y Los Sueños, and Sereniti, with DJ Lady Die spinning vinyl between sets.
