EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An 18-year-old man from Juarez was arrested after he allegedly fled from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers Monday morning, June 30, a DPS spokesman said.
At about 10:20 a.m. Monday, a DPS trooper attempted to stop an SUV along Loop 375 near Coles Street near Downtown El Paso for a registration violation, the spokesman said.
The driver, later identified as 18-year-old Gabriel Villa from Juarez, did not stop for the traffic stop and fled away from the trooper, the spokesmzn said.
The driver continued to flee from DPS troopers and made several other traffic violations during the pursuit, the spokesman said.
After turning into a Walmart parking lot near Resler Drive, the suspect stopped the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood and fled on foot into a backyard, where he was captured, the spokesman said.
There were eight passengers found in the SUV, who were turned over to Border Patrol, the DPS spokesman said.
Villa was taken into custody by the DPS Criminal Investigations Division.
The investigation is ongoing.
