EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Fire crews are still searching and extinguishing heat along the southwestern corner of the Trout Fire on Thursday, July 3, the Gilas Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team said in an update.
The Trout Fire has stayed at 47,294 acres with 83 percent containment and under 300 personnel working on the fire. The cause of the fire has been ruled as lightning.
The incident management team says Highway 15 was reopened on Wednesday, July 2, and the forest closure was amended, reopening four campgrounds at Lake Roberts. Temporary delays are possible due to the transportation of heavy equipment along Highway 15 and other area roads.
Crews will be working on extinguishing heat along the southwestern corner of the fire by reinforcing handline and working towards additional containment, the incident management team said.
“Suppression repair and containment efforts are occurring simultaneously across the incident. As the holiday approaches, visitors and residents are encouraged to maintain awareness when traveling and recreating, especially in areas where fire crews and equipment are still hard at work. Public cooperation is essential,” the incident management team said.
On Wednesday, the fire area saw one to two inches of rain in the northeastern and central portions, as well as localized flooding. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday, the incident management team said.
