EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Sheriff’s Office said it made 53 arrests during a three-day crackdown over the July Fourth holiday weekend.
Twenty-nine of those arrests were for DWI, a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.
A two-pronged initiative included high-visibility patrols at Red Sands and a multi-agency DWI Task Force throughout the County.
Over the course of the weekend, deputies and partner agencies also conducted 381 traffic
stops, issued 128 citations, and gave 374 warnings.
The Sheriff’s Office reported there were no fatalities, shootings or major crashes reported throughout the County, “making it a safe and successful weekend for our community.”

“Keeping our streets safe takes collaboration, commitment, and proactive policing,” El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “Thanks to the teamwork of our Sheriff’s Office and local and state law-enforcement partners, we ended the holiday weekend with over 50 arrests and, most
importantly, no serious incidents. That’s the kind of result our community deserves, and it’s
the standard we’ll keep pushing for.”
Ugarte thanked all participating agencies and emphasizes the department’s continued focus on public safety.
