Border Report – 25 in custody in wake of Juarez murder spree

Posted on July 14, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Police in Juarez, Mexico, have arrested an additional 25 suspects, seized 32 firearms and five vehicles in the wake of a violent spree that left almost two dozen people dead last Wednesday and Thursday.

Previously, the municipal police had announced the arrest of eight suspects, and Chihuahua state authorities said they had another two in custody. City and state officials said the murders resulted from targeted attacks against alleged drug dealers and homes where crystal methamphetamine was distributed.

The Chihuahua state police on Monday said not all of the 25 people arrested this past weekend participated in the murders but were in possession of guns, drugs, or stolen vehicles.

“To restore order given the violent events in Juarez, (the state) implemented a special operation […] between Thursday and Sunday that included more than 100 officers, two helicopters, and six drones in high-crime areas,” the state police said in a statement.

The detainees included men and women aged between 16 to 51.

Authorities said last week’s attacks focused on alleged members of the Doblados or Artistas Asesinos gang, whose leaders were transferred from Cereso No. 3 prison in Juarez to jails elsewhere in Chihuahua late last month.
