KTSM News – CRRUA: 96% compliant on correcting deficiencies identified by New Mexico

Posted on July 15, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) says it is now more than 96 percent compliant in meeting deficiencies identified by the State of New Mexico during a survey of the utility’s system in 2023.

The utility, which provides water and wastewater service to Santa Teresa and Sunland Park, has corrected 56 of 58 deficiencies identified by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED).

CRRUA initiated a “Progress Checklist” to track the corrections, it said. The latest deficiency CRRUA corrected is number 38 on the checklist, which is repair of the level indicator at the airport water storage tank. The two remaining deficiencies on the checklist are numbers 41 and 50.

“This improved performance indicator is positive news for CRRUA customers,” CRRUA Executive Director Juan Crosby said. “They benefit from all the upgrades we’ve initiated over the past year and a half since I assumed operational control of the system in the way of water that meets state and federal drinking water standards. It represents our continued progress in helping improve the health and welfare of our community.”

The Performance Checklist can be accessed by clicking here.
