EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Goose Fire continues to be at 800 acres with 0 percent containment, with the cause ruled as lightning/natural, the Albuquerque Zone Incident Management Team said in an update on Wednesday, July 16.

The Incident Management Team said crews will return to the southeast corner of the fire to continue assessing and preparing control lines. Over 100 personnel are currently fighting the fire.
Thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted over the fire, which could impact operations. Additional engines are staged and ready to respond to any new starts resulting from increased lightning activity, the Incident Management Team said.
“Thunderstorms and lightning continue to present operational challenges across the fire area. Crews are working diligently to engage the fire directly where conditions allow, with public and firefighter safety remaining our top priority,” Incident Commander Lino Baca said.
The fire is burning 18 miles northwest of Silver City, New Mexico, in the Gila National Forest.
