RUIDOSO, N.M. (KTSM) — The Village of Ruidoso is informing residents that a flash flood warning is in effect, as issued by the U.S. National Weather Service, on Thursday, July 24.
According to the Village via Facebook, the flash flood warning is in effect until 3:30 p.m.
“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding in and around the South Fork burn scar,” said the Village.
The Village of Ruidoso also noted that excessive rainfall over the burn scar will impact the Upper Canyon, Brady Canyon and Perk Canyon, as well as Cedar Creek, Eagle Creek, and Rio Ruidoso drainages.
Impacts to the areas along Rio Ruidoso may extend downstream to Ruidoso Downs and the debris can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials, the Village said.
The Village of Ruidoso said the following roadways are temporarily closed due to weather:
- Cree Meadows from Hull to Skyvue Dr.
- Reese Dr. from Meander Dr. to Service Rd.
- Warrior Dr. from Hull to Gavilan Canyon
- Paradise Canyon at Suddert Dr.
- All of Gavilan Canyon – Gavilan Canyon from HWY 48 to HWY 70
- White Mountain Dr. at George P White Dr. to Hull
- Hull at Paradise Canyon
- Cree Meadows at Wiley to Metz
- Cree Meadows to Morgan
- Cedar Creek at Mechem Dr/HWY 48
These roads will typically reopen within 24-48 hours or less, the Village said.
Additionally, the Village of Ruidoso has established two shelters:

As well, PNM is reporting customers without power in the Davis Dr. and Yellow Pine Rd area with potential outages nearby, the Village said.
Customers are encouraged to text “OUT” to 78766 to report their power out and text “ALERT” to 78766 to get outage alerts.
